Should I upgrade my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8?

Are you planning to buy a new laptop? Wait, did you hear Windows 8 is coming? You did! In this article, I will discuss if it is worth waiting for Windows 8 before you invest lot of money on a laptop.

I purchased a new computer 2 years ago which came with Windows Vista pre installed. The first thing I did after I got the computer is wipe out the Windows Vista and install Windows 7. I am glad I did it. Vista was one of the most hyped products from Microsoft. But they corrected the mistake by installing the Windows 7.

Now the time has come again! i am considering replacing my laptop with a new Lenovo Y510 laptop. But here comes the news of Windows 8. Now I am confused. Should I wait another year or two and get it with Windows 8 pre installed?

I did some research on Windows 8 and this is what I concluded. It will take atleast another 2 years for the final general release of Windows 8 (hopefully, it will be named "Windows 8"). Waiting another 2 years is not worth just to get a new version of Windows. After all, even after Windows 8 is released, it may take another year or so for all the device manufacturing companies to release good drivers for the existing devices.

So, this is my conclusion. If you have a good computer currently and there is no need to upgrade, wait another 2 years to invest on a new laptop. You can buy a brand new Windows 8 laptop sometime early 2013. If your computer has become old and cannot wait long, just go ahead and get a new Windows 7 laptop. After Windows 8 is released and become stable, you can upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8 by paying an upgrade license fees.
